A garage door track adjustment requires that you know the way around the system.

As such, it is important to know that the track is usually connected to the doorframe by means of some metal clips.

Therefore, it permits the rollers of the garage door to slide while being guided.

Given that, a garage door track adjustment can involve the track’s setting to the right alignment for the rollers.

A garage door repair in Indianapolis should be called for this.

To guide you, however, here are some of the steps that should be taken:

    Ensure your safety.

Adjusting a garage door track means getting the door closed first.

You only need to loosen each track at a time.

Moreover, you should not remove the lag bolts entirely.

Simply loosen these lag bolts that are holding the track to its jamb and then slide the bracket until it reaches the correct distance.

You might need to loosen more than one of the clips, but you can get the track to be placed anywhere while fastening the clips once again.

Just ensure that the lag bolts that are attaching the clips to the framing are fastened.

    Proceed to proper adjustment.

This is where you formally start the job of a garage door track adjustment.

Remember that the overhead area of the garage door track only contains one point for adjustment.

Hence, the track should have the same distance that is away from the door similar to the wall track.

You should not try to adjust the track while the door is still open.

There are brackets that are holding the track up, which have slots and other holes in them.

The rear of the track will also have to be moved in order for it to be adjusted.

Simply have the bolts loosened or removed if a new hole will need to be used.

Just move the rear of the track closer or far away from the door as much as it is needed.

However, do not have it moved far.

When the track is too far from the door, the garage door itself could fall.

Moreover, a closer track can also cause the door to bind. Have the rear of the track moved and then test the door.

The track should be in parallel with the garage door.

Fasten the bolts and then test the operation of the door.

For safety precautions, do not stand below the door and then inspect it for any binding or loosening of the door.

A garage door track adjustment for the overhead area is the same as adjusting the tracks on the side of the door.

The only difference is that you only have one place to adjust the track at.

If the overhead garage door track has not been bent, then these steps should work for you.

The rear ends of the tracks of the garage door are held in position by the metal angles that are attached to the rafters or the ceiling.

These angles have holes, with some being slotted and some being not.

The thing is, you have to place the track in parallel to the door in its open position.

    Adjust or replace the weatherstripping.

Sometimes, you will have to adjust the track to the weatherstripping as well.

Except for the top clip, there are bolt holes that are slotted so that the track can be attached to the clip.

When the door closes, it should touch the weatherstripping.

If you see the weather coming in, you can have the bolts loosened so you can move the track near the framing.

Don’t make it too tight though.

Fasten the bolts once again and then test the door.
